Canterbury Lent Update

Canterbury has had a great year so far! Canterbury continues to grow and to reach the students of Texas Tech. We have averaged around 18-20 students per Sunday this academic year. We have also continued meeting on Thursday nights for our “We Aren’t Strangers” event, averaging around 25 students each night. This year, we have decided to focus on mental health and social events during our Thursday night meetings. For each one of these events, we have also fixed a meal. This semester, we are trying something new by having the students plan and cook the Thursday night meals all on their own. Having the students plan and cook the meals has been a fun way to experience each other’s cultures. Additionally, we continue on with our Journey formation class. This semester, the students wanted to learn about church history, so we are reading Justo Gonzalez’s The History of Christian Thought together.  I am happy to say that through all of these weekly events, Canterbury now serves around 40-45 people a week, which is a huge increase in numbers from previous years. 

At the end of May, we are looking forward to going to Colorado Springs for our annual retreat. This year, our retreat will focus on the concept of love and what love in action means. While we are in Colorado Springs, we will visit the Great Sandhills National Park, Pike’s Peak, and Garden of the Gods. Mtr. Rachel Petty from St. Christopher's in Lubbock, Mtr. Miriam Scott from St. Andrew's in Amarillo, and Deacon Tammy Breitbarth from St. Andrew's in Amarillo will be join us! 

Canterbury will be fundraising throughout the spring semester in order to raise funds for our retreat. We will continue selling shirts through our online Redbubble store and our online Bonfire store. In addition to our online stores, this spring, we are again making breakfasts for St. Stephen’s and St. Christopher’s. . In addition to cooking breakfasts, we also look forward to our June garage sale and perhaps one date night fundraiser in March. If you would like to help support our fundraising efforts, we would love for you to sign up for our date night event (details below) or donate to our garage sale (details below).

Spring Date Night

Looking for a special night out? Check out our date night at Canterbury on March 29 at 6pm. For this event, we are cooking Mexican food!

This meal includes three courses. The appetizer will include chips and salsa as well as a Mexican chopped salad with honey-lime vinaigrette. The main meal will be green chili sour cream chicken enchiladas with elote and Mexican rice. Dessert includes chocolate flan cake. Your choice of drinks include soda, iced tea, sparkling water, red wine, white wine, and a selection of margaritas. Dinner will also include live music!!!

Spots are limited, so sign up fast! 

$75 per person. All proceeds will benefit Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry and will help us to go on a retreat to Colorado this summer.

Garage Sale Donations

Canterbury is currently taking donations for our summer 2025 garage sale. If you have any items laying around at home that you would like to donate to our campus ministry, call 575-631-5345. We will pick up the items or you can drop them off at Canterbury. Let us help you clean out your sheds, garages, and spare rooms this spring!
